SPECIFICATIONS FOR MISHKAN T’FILAH Mishkan T’filah has a trim size (page dimension) of 9.5” tall by 7.25” wide. This is the same size as the soft-cover preview edition used at the last Biennial convention of the Union for Reform Judaism in Houston. Since all versions of Mishkan T’filah will be bound in hardcover, add about 1/16” in both dimensions for the overhang of the cloth covers. The book’s thickness including the hard cover will be about 1.4”. All editions are Hebrew opening only [pages turn from right to left]. The complete, one-volume prayer book will be about 716 pages. For the sake of comparison, Gates of Prayer is 800 pages. Since the page size of Mishkan T’filah is larger than that of Gates of Prayer and we are using a slightly heavier paper, the weight of the books will be close to that of Gates of Prayer. The new prayer book is also available as a two-volume set, one containing Shabbat services, the other with weekday and festival services. There is some overlap between the two, e.g., the complete selection of music texts is published in both volumes. The thickness of each of these will therefore be slightly more than half the thickness of the one-volume edition. Customers are permitted to purchase either volume alone, if they wish. The large print edition is only available as a two volume set. Again, customers may purchase either volume alone. Mishkan T’filah is also available without transliteration. The complete Siddur as well as the individual volumes – Shabbat only, or Weekdays and Festivals – are available without transliteration. The individual volumes – Shabbat only, or Weekdays and Festivals – are each paginated from page 1. The large print edition will indicate both sets of page numbers so that those leading services can refer to the correct pagination regardless of which edition is used in their congregation. The CCAR anticipates publication in 2007. For information, contact Ms. Debbie Smilow, Managing Editor, CCAR Press, at 212-972-3636, ext. 244 [dsmilow@ccarnet.org]. |
