Rabbi Jeffrey Salkin

Rabbi Jeffrey Salkin, DMin, is one of American Judaism’s most prolific and most quoted rabbis. His colleagues have described him as “courageous,” “always relevant,” and “one of American Judaism’s true public intellectuals.”

For more than forty years, Rabbi Salkin served as a congregational rabbi in Reform synagogues and served in various leadership roles within the Reform Movement. He is the co-founder of Wisdom Without Walls, an online salon for Jewish ideas, which engages Jews and prominent thought leaders in conversations about American Judaism post–October 7. He is a well-known speaker who has shared his ideas nationally and internationally.
 
He is the author of twelve books, including the best-selling Putting God on the Guest List: How to Reclaim the Spiritual Meaning of Your Child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah. His column “Martini Judaism: For Those Who Want to Be Shaken and Stirred,” published by the Religion News Service, won a Wilbur Award from the Religion Communicators Council for best religion column of the year, as well as two previous awards. “Martini Judaism” is also an award-winning podcast, available through Spotify, Google, and Audible.
 
Rabbi Salkin’s essays have appeared in The Washington Post, Commentary, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, Tablet, Mosaic, Forward, and JTA. He has discussed the American political scene on CNN and the BBC. He has contributed numerous articles to scholarly journals. His books have inspired conversations on such subjects as American Jewish identity, Israel, gender, and Jewish culture, and he has written three Torah commentaries. He delivered the keynote on religion and spirituality at the world-famous Chautauqua Institution, as well as participating in interreligious dialogues in international forums.
 
For more than forty years, Rabbi Salkin served congregations in New York, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, and has served as visiting rabbi at Beit Warshawa, the progressive congregation in Warsaw, Poland. He currently lives in Montclair, New Jersey, and his hobbies are playing guitar, biking, and consuming coffee.
